Ron,
I almost began shedding tears of joy when I saw
in your newsletter the photos of the excavation of Ellis Square! At long last, the plans that
so many of us advocated and mapped out during the mid-1990s, to replace the City Market Garage with an underground parking
deck and a restored square, are moving forward. How Thrilling!
This project will have as big an impact for Downtown Savannah as the restoration of
Post Office Square did in Boston's Financial District. I had the good fortune to walk through that sublime urban space five
days a week when I directed a Boston-based economic development organization, and I can't wait
to see the positive transformation in Savannah's City Market district.
Not sure when our next trip
to Savannah will be, but Randy and I have at least one more
reason to make it soon.
